As with radios, motors and batteries there a wide varieity of Electronic Speed Controls available for your RC Car or Truck. Most Ready to Run kits will come with a very basic model which may or may not offer reverse.

Aftermarket ESC's can have features like drag brake, anti-drag, or traction control. Many have the option to enable or disable reverse as well. For bashing there are some very economical yet durable choices which can be setup with a minimum of fuss.
